Hi again,

Delete this folder:
C:\Program Files\strCodec

Reboot and let me know if you are still having any issues. If you are still having issues with virus burst, try smitfraudfix option 2 again. Delete the smitfraudfix folder and download it again from here: SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop. Then, do this:

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please post another HijackThis log as well.

Hi lucky-g, glad to hear things are back to normal. Unless you have any more concerns, I think you are ready to go. :whistling:

Here is some prevention and other information:

Make sure you are running a firewall. ZoneAlarm and Kerio are both good, you can get them here (only run one firewall):
ZoneAlarm: http://www.zonelabs....reeDownload.jsp
Kerio: http://www.sunbelt-s...io-Download.cfm

I highly recommend you install SpywareBlaster if you don't have it. You may also consider getting Spybot and Ad-Aware if you do not already have them.
SpywareBlaster: http://www.javacools...areblaster.html
Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.de/
Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoft.de/

Keep up to date with your Microsoft updates and make sure you get all the critical updates!
They can be found here:
http://v5.windowsupd.../en/default.asp

Try to perform an online scan or two once a month or so, in addition to running your anti-virus program with real-time protection enabled and the most current updates.
Some free online virus scans can be found here:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ -- http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm -- http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/

Finally, check out the following link for more information:
How Did I Get Infected?

You're most welcome. :whistling: Now that you're clean, I would go ahead and clean out your system restore. Here is how:

Click Start > Help and Support > Undo changes to your computer with System Restore
Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create

Click Start > Run and type Cleanmgr
Click the More Options Tab.
Click Clean Up in the System Restore section.

This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.
