Okay I have 2 identicle 160 gig hard drives that I want so setup a RAID 0 config on. I have an ASUS A8N MOBO so the RAID drivers are all on there. however. after I setup the RAID in the BIOS the main BIOS no longer sees hard drives there at all Although the RAID area of bios still identifies them as a bootable RAID config. And when I try to install XP onto it, and it gives me the option of which HD to install on it doesn't show them as a raid config but as 2 seperate devices. so I choose one and then the computer retsarts after copying files and whatnot and I get a disk read error. If I do manage to install XP all the way through (by moving around drives and stuff in the middle of installation) (only on 1 drive like I said) the second drive doesn't even appear in the my computer. from what I understand I need a bootable XP CD to do this with. and I'm assuming the 2002 version of XP (the one with SP 1a) is a bootable CD.

So what I'm asking is how in gods name do I set up a bootable RAID 0 config with 2 IDE drives.

I also have 2 IDE CD and DVD drives to throw into the mix so where should everything be in terms of masters slaves primary and secondary.

I've built many systems before but never attempted a RAID config. So feel free to use the big words.

winows xp should ask if you wish to set up raid without you doing it first, the dvd drive should be ur master and the cd drive ur slave. Also most new mobo's have two ide ports one for dual opti-drives and one specifically for dual hdds, try setting it back to normal in bios and letting xp handle the raid, if that doesn't work post back

Yes XP before you even setup choose your installation device it asks if you would like to install a 3rd party RAID driver but then that requires a floppy. I haven't even held a floppy in 5 years. Am I supposed to DL this driver using another comp and throw it on a flppy?

if that is an option i would definately suggest that, as that should solve your problem immediately. If not we will work around it.
