I formatted my computer ( without any back-ups )
I installed most drivers such as the display and video card.
But i can't figure what driver I need for my sound.
When i open the box it says fullcom but i can't see a serial number etc.You can't see it because of the box around it saying fullcom ( in other words the soundcard is part of the motherboard)
So now i'm asking can any1 help me find out what my soundcard is and what sounddriver i need.
Here's the serial number of the motherboard i think .

VIA VT8501(i'm guessing u need this)
it also says 001CD Taiwan followed by 13H005700

if this doesen't bring you any futher maybe this might help www.compaq/mypressario and search for the model of compaq 7460 --> that's were i got my other drivers but the sound doesen't really get me anywhere futher..

If it is onboard sound, the drivers will be on the motherboard CD if you have that

Otherwise

Download and install Everest Home Edition

Run the programme, click + next to computer then summary

Look on the right for multimedia / audio adapter

Look at the manufacturer’s site for the suitable drivers for your Operating System

If you are unable to find them, please post the make and model here before you download anything

I don't have a motherboard cd atleast i don't recall having one ..

it says sound blast pro ..
Multimedia : soundcard ess technology allegro-1.comm audio drive ( i have this driver)
soundcard Sound Blaster Pro ( don't have this --> i checked my system en hardwaremanger Sound Blaster pro is within the list but shows an exclamation mark .
code # 11 --> windows tried to use to start this , but windows stopped responding after trying to use this --> windows will no longer try to use this device.
It also states that a possible solution may be to adjust the driver ..
So in other words i'm looking prob for Sound Blaster Pro ...
But i already looked for that before i asked here --> wich means i can't find it ^^ and creative doesen't support it anymore i taught ..

Hmm i just read during startup mpU401 port disabled ... couldthis be a problem?

Creative may have those, though they usually want the software from the CD which came with the card

hmm crap
As i now check my hardware manager ...
I can see the exclamation mark in front of Sound Blaster pro has been remove , fixed or so ..
But still i have no audio ..
I'm guessing the computer doesen't even realize i have boxes attached to it . There's nowhere i can set volume or anything .
And yes they are attached seeing as this computer was ordered and with it came the manufacterers boxes i now don't have a clue what to do.

Perhaps uehm my Soundcard is dead ..or the plug in ain't working proberly

as i load f1 or f10 don't seem to get me there.
And what do i do when i get there?
or is the location of the audio enable /disable clearly marked in the bios setup

Press the power button and keep tapping the delete key until it enters BIOS set up, you will need to check through the screens as it depends on the way this is set out

yeah srr , my last post is incorrect.
I did enter bios and i check around this is what it says bout the audio doesen't make me any wiser tough.
Under PCI DEVICES :
USB Controller irq11
USB Controller irq11
Ethernet Controller irq3
Other communication Device irq10
Compaq Audio Device irq5
Compaq Vga Controller irq3

and you can chance the irq to 3,5,10,11

uehm , the original drivers ... beats me .
Bought some time ago , all the driver were pre-installed and wipe-out with the format.

Creative have updates for drivers in their downloads but not the drivers, they do sell the Live drive CD for 14 USD, though best to ask them if it is suitable

Hmm , thanks keith.Altough i don't that updating would solve the problem.
Seeing as the driver doesen't give any error anymore but there is just no sign of connection between the boxes and the computer.
And i'll be buying a new computer within days so i prob won't buy any upgrades for the old one.
But ah well evrything works except sound.So it can still be used for work.

The update won't run unless the original driver is there

You could right click Soundblaster in device manager, click uninstall, confirm, reboot, check device manager after the reboot

so you'll have me remove the soundblaster and then?
Because if you remove and reboot it will state found new hardware search for the right driver and i'll wind up with sound blaster ..
So i don't get it

I really think it's something with the connection or so..
Control panel --> Multimedia-->Audio -->no devices to play sound..
So i really think that it can't be fixed.
Especially cuz atm there are no software conflicts .. so i'm guessing hardware failure somewhere along the road.
And seeing that it doesen't find a device to output sound i'm guessing the connection bewteen the boxes and the computer or the connection between the boxes and the soundcard ,wich is the same lol , are busted.And i can't take a look at it because the soundcard is embedded on the motherboard covered by a plastic box saying fullcom.
