How is the computer running, other than the obvious?

Web pages are loading normally. I installed Google Desktop and I think it is slowing startups a little but no big problem. Everything seems OK.

Should I be worried about combofix.exe and SDFix not running?
Also what do you think about Vista OS with regards to security? I realise it is early days yet for this OS but I have had thoughts about moving up to a 64 Bit OS eventually. I would wait at least 4 months until the bugs are worked out of this new OS of course.

Sorry for the delay. I actually haven't installed Vista on any of my computers yet. i have the upgrade purchased but haven't had time to install yet. Everything I have read and seen is that the security is excellent and the biggest improvement, but for how long? It will only be a matter of time until they find ways to circumvent this, unfortunately.Your safe to back up files, I still am curious about combofix. I have never had a problem with someone running it.

Right Click the Desktop and Select New--> Folder--> Name it SysClean

• Download the Sysclean Package to the folder you made.
• Next,download the Virus Pattern Files (Official Pattern Release) to your desktop from Here
• Right Click and Select Extract All to unzip the folder.
• Now,from the unzipped folder,move lpt$vpn.XXX file to the SysClean folder.
• Restart in SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
• Open the SysClean Folder and doubleclick sysclean.com
• Be sure Automatically clean or delete detected files is checked.
• Click the Scan button to begin,please be patient,it will take a little bit to finish.
• Once complete,verify the log from the scan (SYSCLEAN.LOG) is in the SysClean folder and restart back to Normal Mode.
• Copy&Paste those results in the next reply.

Thanks very much for your help. I guess the computer is clean now. I have installed: AVG antivirus and antispyware, SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition, Panda online pro antispyware and the other software you had me used. Can these be reduced to a smaller number of software? Any other recommendations?

Panda online pro antispyware, did you buy this or is it a trial?

AVG as an antivirus, avg antispyware or Superantispyware are both great. One is probably only needed, I like Superantispyware personally

I would add SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

You can delete all the programs we downloaded, make sure that you delete combofix also.

Yes I did pay for the Panda online pro antispyware for 6 months. Probably unecessary but I was a little nervous when Combofix and SDFix didn't run. I already have SpywareBlaster installed and configured.
We got quite a bit of snow here a few days ago but nothing like what parts of NY state had ( up to 12 feet I believe). After a very warm January we were hit with very frigid Arctic weather in February. Looking forward to Spring now.
