I also disabled The Cleaner, fixed the 3 items in the Hijack Log and the dll (in Safe Mode) from WIndows/System32.....then rebooted. And here is that log.


Other than System Restore, I can't leafve my PC completely unprotected like this...I'm going to enable all my protections and, if you have further things for me to do, I'll disable them again. Thanks.

The Microsoft antispyware never was disabled. It's still running at start-up. Enable everything until I tell you otherwise. :tazz:

I'll give the silentrunning thing a go today...interesting you said that Microsoft Anti-Spyware was not disabled....I disabled the "Security Agent" by right-clicking on the icon in Systray and it said "disabled" every time I looked at it -- all day yesterday -- until I enabled it last night after my note to you. So maybe I was supposed to disable the whole app, not just the Security Agent thingy (????).

You have referred to 'an infection' on my PC -- I didn't know I had one, but just wanted to be sure. I would like to get trained as a Geek to Go expert sometime.....would love to know what you all know.

I had CoolWebSearch show up on Pest Patrol....I guess I would term that an intrusion rather than an infection, so I was thinking maybe you saw something more wrong than I had anticipated. Didn't mean to play semantics (or symantecs) with intrusion versus infection...I just thought infection meant viruses, not malware. My mistake I guess.

But the fact you said you were 'looking into how to resolve the infection' or words to that effect gave me the impression that you did, in fact, see more wrong than I had anticipated.

If nothing is wrong, let's both move on. If you see something wrong, let's fix it...deal?
