Hello again grudz4prez, and sorry for not responding to your first post. Anyway, I needed the other logs.

That logfile isn't there....I had looked for it before I posted. Do you want the quarrantine list?

If you have it, please post it.

[...] apparently I have the AOL spyware protection program on the computer and it pops up all the time saying that it's blocking command services. Doesn't do anything else! I'd love to get rid of both, and they've been on the computer since we've started...as you had said, I haven't installed anything.

OK. Thanks for letting me know. Please give me some time now to overlook all the logs you posted, and I will reply back as soon as possible. Thanks! :whistling:

Hello again.

Silent Runners (Glad you can understand this...it looks like a mess to me. :whistling:

[...]

It's not a mess at all. The log looks clean.
______________________________________________________________________________

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad.
Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below and do not miss any steps out. If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Step #1
If not already enabled, please follow these steps to enable the viewing of hidden files in Windows XP:
1. Close all programs so that you are at your Desktop.
2. Double-click on the My Computer icon.
3. Select the Tools menu and then click on the menu option labelled "Folder Options".
4. After the new window appears select the View tab.
5. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labelled "Hide file extensions for known file types".
6. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labelled "Hide protected operating system files".
7. Select the radio button labelled "Show hidden files and folders".
8. Press the Apply button and then press the OK button and shutdown My Computer.

Your computer is now configured to show all hidden system files and folders.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there, right-click your Start button and go to Explore), please delete this folder (if present):
C:\QooBox <-- this folder

Using Windows Explorer, please delete the entire contents of Spybot's Recovery folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\<all files/folders>

Step #2: Clear Java cache
Please clear the Java Cache. To do so:
1. Go to Start > Control Panel.
2. By default, the Control Panel is in Category View. Click the link labelled "Swith to Classic View" on the left side, if you are not in Classic View yet.
3. Double-click on the Java icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
4. Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings... button.
5. In the new window that pops up, click the Delete Files... button.
6. Make sure there are checkmarks in all checkboxes ("Applications and Applets" and "Trace and Log Files").
7. Click OK.
NOTE: This deletes ALL the downloaded applications and applets from the cache.
8. Click OK twice to leave the Java Control Panel.

Step #3: Reset and re-enable System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up
Reset and re-enable System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files:
1. Close all programs so that you are at your Desktop.
2. Go to Start > Run.
3. In the Open: field type SYSDM.CPL and press the OK button.
4. Click the System Restore tab.
5. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labelled "Turn off System Restore" to disable System Restore.
6. Click the Apply button.
7. Uncheck the option labelled "Turn off System Restore" to turn System Restore back on.
8. Click the OK button.
9. Reboot.

Step #4: Perform an online scan with Panda ActiveScan
Please perform an online scan with Panda ActiveScan. To do so:
1. Go to http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm.
2. Once you are on the Panda ActiveScan site, click on the blue Scan your PC now > button.
A new window will open.
3. Select your Country.
4. Select your State/Province.
5. Enter your E-mail Address.
6. Select either "Home User" or "Company".
7. Click the big green FREE Online Scan > button.
NOTE: When prompted to install an ActiveX component, install it.
Panda Software will start downloading the files it requires for the scan. NOTE: This may take a couple of minutes!
8. When download is complete, click on the My Computer icon to start scanning your computer.
9. When the scan completes - if anything malicious is detected - click the See Report button.
10. Click Save Report and save it to a convenient location easy to remember.
11. Post the entire contents of Panda ActiveScan report here as a reply to this post.

Step #5: Rescan with HijackThis
Scan with HijackThis again and post a new HijackThis log.
______________________________________________________________________________

So in your next reply, please post the entire contents of:
- AVG Anti-Spyware's Quarantine list (if you have it)
- the Panda ActiveScan report
- a new HijackThis log
NOTE: Use several posts if necessary to include everything in the requested logs.

How is your computer running? :help:

Hello again.

[...] The AVG quarrantine won't copy and paste. Any suggestions other than writng it out manually. I will type each line out if you need it. [...]

Nah, it's fine. I do not really need it anymore.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad.
Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below and do not miss any steps out. If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Step #1
Please run ATF Cleaner again - see instructions in Post #44.

Step #2
Please download OldTimer's OTMoveIt and save it to your Desktop.
Download OTMoveIt (OTMoveIt.exe)

We need to use OldTimer's OTMoveIt to delete tools and other related files which you may have downloaded/used during our cleanup, and the backup folders that were created. Please perform these steps to perform a cleanup with OTMoveIt:
1. Open OTMoveIt by double-clicking the OTMoveIt.exe file.
2. Click the green CleanUp! button on top. A text file named cleanup.txt will now be downloaded from the Internet.
NOTE: If you get a warning from your firewall or another security program regarding OTMoveIt attempting to contact the Internet, please allow it to do so.
3. Click the Yes button when the confirmation box pops up that asks you if you want to begin the cleanup process.
4. If OTMoveIt tells you the system requires a reboot to finish removing files, click the Yes button to reboot. If OTMoveIT didn't ask to reboot your computer - reboot manually anyway.

Your log looks clean. Good work! :whistling: However, if you experience any more problems, please report back.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safety:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free Google Toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
  • Winpatrol <= Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. a tutorial for this product is located here:
Using Winpatrol to protect your computer from malicious software

Hi there!

Thakn you again for all of your help and sorry that I needed some things spelled out a little more than others. I will dload all of the extra pieces you gave. I have three more questions, if you don't mind:

1) Do you have any ideas on the BSOD problem? Even with the reboot on the OTMoveIT, it still came up.

2) Can you help me get rid of all of the AOL software on the computer? I still get the AOL Spyware Protection finding and blocking Command Services.

3) Lastly, I know you said not to do it originally, however, the program itself crashes on occasion as well, can you send me to a link to get rid of all the Panda software. I would like to have it uninstalled and then purchase brand new, updated software. Is there any specific ones on that list that you'd recommend? Or, at the very least, re-install Panda and purchase a new lisence (it expired while we were working on the fixes!)

Thanks again!

Hello again grudz4prez, and sorry for the little delay. I have had Internet connection problems.

1) Do you have any ideas on the BSOD problem? Even with the reboot on the OTMoveIT, it still came up.

Apparently, no. I don't have a clue. As the problem does not seem to be malware related, it may be easiest to ask some techs on the other side of the forum so they can help with it. Please start a new topic in the Windows XP™, 2000, 2003, NT and ask your question there. Give them as many details about the error as possible and I'm sure someone can help you with the problem. :whistling:

2) Can you help me get rid of all of the AOL software on the computer? I still get the AOL Spyware Protection finding and blocking Command Services.

To get rid of AOL, go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove anything related to AOL. That should get rid of all AOL software installed.

To uninstall Panda Titanium 2006 Antivirus + Antispyware, go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Panda Titanium 2006 Antivirus + Antispyware. Restart your computer afterwards. Once you have done this, Panda Titanium 2006 Antivirus + Antispyware will be correctly uninstalled.

If you remove Panda Titanium 2006 Antivirus + Antispyware please understand you will have to install a new antivirus program AND firewall as the Panda ones will have been uninstalled also.
In my opinion, you don't really have to purchase antivirus/firewall software; there are pretty good (and free) alternatives.
Good (and free) firewall products:
- ZoneAlarm
- Comodo Free Firewall
- Outpost Firewall Free
- Sunbelt Personal Firewall (= Kerio) - learn more here
NOTE: Never install more than one firewall program on your system. Several together can give problems and decrease the reliability of it seriously.
Good (and free) antivirus products:
- Antivir
- Avast Free
- AVG Free
- Bitdefender Free
NOTE: Never install more than one antivirus program on your system. Several together can give problems and decrease the reliability of it seriously.

As a firewall, I use the free Comodo as it is a friendly-to-use and good firewall program in my opinion. As an antivirus, I use the free Avira AntiVir program.

Should you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
