Pharmaceuticals giant Johnson & Johnson is suing the American Red Cross, demanding that the charity stop using the symbol of a red cross on a white background on products it sells to the public.

The suit asks the Red Cross to turn over the products in question to Johnson & Johnson for destruction and also seeks unspecified punitive damages.

It's long been a theory of mine that if all of the corporations fired all of the people whose job it is to create these kinds of lawsuits and fired all the lawyers who prosecute the lawsuits and saved all the money that they otherwise spend on lawsuits like this one, they would save more money in expenses then they earn by winning cases and make the word a better place to boot

Keith, enlighten us here. This sounds ridiculous. Why are you guys at J&J doing this.

If you are not from J&J, that avatar could be the next lawsuit...be careful.

An agreement was signed between Johnson & Johnson and the American National Red Cross on January 29, 1895 that recognized Johnson & Johnson’s rights.

A decade after the agreement, President Theodore Roosevelt signed legislation protecting the American Red Cross’s use of the red cross mark, but at the same time reserving the rights of Johnson & Johnson to use it too.

That sounds pathetic. I'd understand if Red Cross was a bad company using their profits for worthless things, but they're not. It's a good charitable cause, and to me, this is just another lame plot to get ahold of more money. I say we boycott their baby powder! :whistling:

The symbol should be given back to J&J and the name changed because of the religious problems it causes, it cannot be used in non christian countries, so the name is now the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement plus Isreal uses the star of David, so the products too have either or both sybols on them. I personally cannot see why the Red Cross cannot borrow the dove symbol of world peace, or just he R of the name for the symbol, but for some strange reason they continue with this stupidity and Red Cross people run the risk of being thought religiously motivated.

With the above in mind J&J would lose a lot more if Red cross products changed to a new sysbol and they sure would sing a different tune I believe, but anyway I think that they are just playing Binatone here.

btw everyone should know their rights then:

That too is a religous symbol.

And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; and the dove came in to him at eventide; and, lo, in her mouth an olive-leaf plucked off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.
Genisis 8,10-11

How about a church of J&J?

true but the difference here is that one is a religious symbol while the other a symbol of a religion, the red cross should solve this problem and move on, but the good thing is that in the zone concerned the people on the ground come together and lead the way, I would like to see a "R" symbol used with a white background, it could start with a big R and a little cross or other with it, then slowly evolve from there without the cross or other till everyone worldwide accepts it

what do you think?
