Hi kelan76,

Try Dr Web CureIt again:
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click Yes to all if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, in the menu, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Paste the text from the saved file as your Reply.
If you get that same Dr Watson debugger error, please copy the text from the warning & Post it as your Reply.

Cheers,

Hi kelan76,

Reboot into Safe Mode:
  • Restart your Computer
  • As soon as it starts to boot up, tap your F8 key repeatedly.
  • This should bring up the Windows Advanced Options Menu.
  • Use your arrow keys to select Safe Mode and click the Enter key.
Next I'd like you to remove the following programs:
The Jane’s Combat Simulations USAF seems to have been incorrectly installed directly in the E:\Program Files folder, not a sub-folder of it. If you use that program please reinstall it in its own subfolder later.
Remove folders & files:
  • Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following, (if present):
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    Jane’s Combat Simulations USAF
    LimeWire 4.12.15
    Viewpoint Media Player

Please take note of any other programs that you don't recognise in that list, and include them in your next response
  • Using Windows Explorer, (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), delete these files, (if present):
    E:\WINDOWS\NirCmd.exe
    E:\WINDOWS\EReg072.dat
    E:\WINDOWS\NPSExec.exe

Next, I would like you to try a System File Check for me.

System File Checker:
  • Go to Start > Run and type sfc /scannow (Note the space between the c & the /)
  • /scannow starts the system File Checker immediately.
  • You will probably need your Windows XP SP2 CD, as it may be required.
  • Allow the scan to run and when complete reboot the system

Tell me how your PC is running now.

Cheers,

Hi kelan76,

I am very sorry that your system is failing to perform correctly, but I cannot see anything in those instructions that would suggest that outcome.

First, let's get this show back on the road, we can deal with the recriminations later.

1. Try to Boot using Last Good Configuration:
  • Boot the PC as if you were going to Safe Mode (tap the F8 key repeatedly following the initial beep after you press the Power button
  • At the Windows Advanced Option Menu, choose Last Known Good Configuration.
  • Hit the Enter key
Did this work?
Yes, post back and answer the questions below.
No, continue to #2.

2. Start the System Restore tool at a command prompt:
  • Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to start your computer in Safe Mode with a command prompt.
  • Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account that has administrator credentials.
  • Type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER: %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
  • Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to restore your computer to an earlier state.
Did this work?
Yes, post back and answer the questions below.
No, answer the questions below and we will try a different approach next.

Please answer these questions for me, and be as specific as possible.

1. At what point in that list of jobs did the problem occur?

2. Did the system hang, requiring a restart, prior to the problem?

1. this did not work, it just started up in the same aweful configuration

2. this did not work either...when i press enter the hourglass comes up for a second but nothing happens...then if i type it in again, the system restore box comes up, but nothing is in it, it is blank....i left it blank all night to see if it would start and it didnt

1. the problems occured after i restarted after i deleted those programs using add/delete programs
2. no

it seems like my computer is running almost in safe mode cuz there are so many things not running...and id say more than half if not almost all of my programs are GONE

Hi kelan76,

It would be good if we can get the System File Check command to work:

Try the following: You will need your WinnXP SP2 disc.

1. Restart the PC in Normal Mode if you can.
2. Hit the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys to start the Task Manager.
3. Go to File > New Task in the File Menu.
4. type sfc /scannow and hit the Enter key. (Note the space between c & /. You will be asked to insert your XP CD)
5. Let this run and reboot at the end. This could take quite some time, so be patient.

If this runs, please tell me how things are running.
If it won't run try this:

6. Repeat steps 1 - 3 above, but in step 4 type sfc /scanonce and hit Enter (this command triggers the System File Checker to run at the next boot)
7. Reboot the system, but have the WinXP CD ready to use.

Reply to tell me if/how everything is now running

If both of these fail we will perform a repair install of XP.

Cheers,

Hi kelan76,

You can always borrow a WinXP SP2 disc from a friend, to try the System File Check routine.

Also, with a borrowed disc you could use the Repair Console to try a version of the System Restore. The files required were showing up in the Deckard's System Scan log done on the 27/9/07, so unless they got deleted, they will still be there.

Unfortunately, the copy of WinXP that is activated on your PC, requires the disc that you have lost, to be able to perform a repair install of Windows.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, as to how we proceed.
