I recently had vista hang on shutdown, blue screen came up, system froze. I found it the next morning still stuck and unresponsive and was forced to hit the main power switch on the back. Ever since then chkdsk has been trying to run on startup - it gets to step 2 and stops, windows then loads. chkdsk is not finishing its run. I have tried running chkdsk from the command prompt, i have tried running chkntfs from the command prompt i have tried booting from the installation disk and running chkntfs from the command prompt. every time it gets to step 2 and about 26% and fails, windows then loads and the disk is still flagged as dirty. I have run the disk checking utility from the manufacturer's site and it says the disk is good. How can I get chkdsk to run and fix the disk?
