
Slow start page eve on DSL?

OK, let's try this--after looking around, it seems that some OEM disks look for certain files...rather than hunt them each down, we're going to kill quite a few
So, boot with the disk and get to the a:\>,then type allof the following in the order I give them
c:
rename msdos.sys msdos.bak
cd bakwin
rename w*.* x*.*
del user.dat
del system.dat
cd system
del *.* (say yes)
cd..
cd system32
del *.* (say yes)
Now, reinsert our troublesome OEM cd and reboot.
See if Windows setup starts now

Let me make sure I do this right....am I booting with the boot.iso disc?

After I typed in rename w*.*x*.* and hit enter I got "Required Parameter Missing".

Ok, got that one...now, del user.dat returned File Not Found

you are at the c:\ prompt?
type

attrib -r -a -s -h user.dat <enter> -- spaces before EACH hypen and before user.dat
attrib -r -a -s -h system.dat <enter> -- spaces before EACH hypen and before system.dat

let's pull out that old windows 98 cd from Micron again
and see if it can still figure out there was a previous OS
