Howdy:

Okay, first of all, is your copy of XP from another computer or did it come with a different computer?

Second: Have you checked the manufacturers website to make sure they even make drivers for all your hardware for XP?

Next: Does your system have a floppy drive? If not, do you know how to burn a slipstreamed install cd ?

Finally, do you realize you may very well void any warranty on this new computer if you do downgrade to XP?

Your system is saying it can't find the hdd because it is a SATA drive and you need to install the drivers for the controller.

If your XP cd includes SP2, then you may be lucky.

When you first boot the system, do you get the message to "Press any key to boot from the cd" ?

If you do, press one.

You will then see a message about pressing F6 to install SCSI drives. Windows sees SATA as SCSI so you need to press F6.

Follow the prompts from there.

Not right. It should ask for a floppy or ask for the driver for the SATA controller. You are getting the request to "Press any key" aren't you?

ok heres what i did to install windows...

I rebooted the laptop, pressed F10 to go to the SETUP, i when to the boot devices, changed the primary bood device to CD and the secondary to hard drive, saved the settings and exited.

waited untill the massege " press any key to boot from CD" appeared, then i pressed a key. when it said press F6 if you need to install any SCSI drives so i did. But then nothing happened and the installation when on as if i never pressed F6, i tried it like 2 times but it didnt do anything...

appreciate your help murray.

What is the make and model of the laptop?

Did you buy your XP cd from a retail outlet or from somewhere online?

Did you not get a Recovery/Restore cd with your computer? Was it new or used?
