Full screen movie in to a wide screen

In my itunes movie library, I have a I Am Legend movie. The movie has been converted with a 3GP Converter software, and now it looks like it got sandwiched from both sides, so that Will Smith's Face is squished. How do I correct it so that it looks normal? Any other converters to use to convert into MP4?
