my dvd drives have disappeared and therefore how do I reformat or repa

Ooops - sorry I forgot to say. I replaced the ribbon cable too! Nothing doing.

Good thing is that having done a rformat the PC is working nicely - just no dvd drive.

So sounds like a mobo ide connector failure or something???????????

did you install your chipset drivers after the new install...
the cable you replaced...was it a 80 wire or a 40 wire...

oh dear. I'll have to investigate this. I fear I might be getting out of my depth. I wouldn't even know where to find the chipset drivers! Where would one normally find them?

I will count the wires and check :)

installing drivers isn't hard...you can do it... :) ...
give the make and model of your computer and I wiil locate the necessary drivers...
the photo below will show the difference between 40 vs 80 wire...

Thanks for that.

I will recheck my wires to be sure! I never realised they come in 40 versus 80 wires.

Surely if all the mobo drivers are there for everyttihg else the ide drivers would also be present. Is there someplace (like device manager) I can check for them.

The computer is a Medion MT6.

you will have to go here... and put in the serial number...or post the serial number back here for me to do it...its the only way get at the drivers...piss poor site...
