Hi there and thanks for referring me and the next steps. I followed your last instructions and ran HostFileReader. This is an area I am unsure about. I do not know if my system is running a host that changes and i don't think that I have added anything either. So I ran a scan for hosts, found a couple of host strings and restored them to default (I think). I then rebooted and ran Hijack this, see full scan result:

Evening! OK so i've run another panda scan (only hard drives). That has found no nasties. When I boot up my pc I now have a black screen with limited access to my display properties, MSN messenger starts up (even with run on start up deseleted), I still have a small yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in my toolbar that every now and then it says I have 4 active exploits? I have run another Hijack and post the log below.

Evening! OK so i've run another panda scan (only hard drives). That has found no nasties. When I boot up my pc I now have a black screen with limited access to my display properties, MSN messenger starts up (even with run on start up deseleted), I still have a small yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in my toolbar that every now and then it says I have 4 active exploits? HI Kat. Thanks for trying to help me.

I've tried to install this service pack before. However when I get so far on the installation I'm prompted to back up my hard drive before continuing. I don't have enough space to back up my entire computer. So i've always aborted at that point?
A few months ago or not too long ago I (think) managed to back up my pc to DVD. However it was all done on a borrowed external DVD drive.

Any suggestions.

Please verify that you are running a supported operating system and your internet explorer security settings allow signed activeX controls to run.

In Internet Explorer, please go to "Tools" then choose "Internet Options". From there, click on the "Security" tab, and then choose "Custom Level". In the top portion you will see:

"Download Signed AxtiveX controls" Please make sure this is enabled then save the settings, and try to re-run that Validation assistant please!

Hey again! Go ahead and update to SP1. If it prompts you to back everything up, you can skip that step since you have recently done it!! Post a fresh HJT log once the update has been applied.
