Could well be. Are you familiar with the sfc scannow process as I would like to check the veracity of your windows files

From the Start menu, select Run.
In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
Select the OK button.
Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.

Cool...
It's when I try to go to "Microsoft Windows Update" page, it takes me to MSN.com
If I try and Search for Microsoft Windows update" page, it will take me to all the search results, but when i click on a link, it either gives me MSN.com or and error message.
If I make it to Microsoft download page and click download updates, it take me to an pop up error tab that says Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage, but then the Thank You for downloading updates page comes up. I click download now and it takes me to "Can't display this page again...
I'll be waiting to hear from you and thanks for everything.

Well you have a unique problem that no one has come across before. But, I have a selection of tests, all fairly short that will see if we can pinpoint the area

1. Totally uninstall Spybot, reboot and the try to update windows

2. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.download.microsoft.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.update.microsoft.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.windowsupdate.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Then go to this direct link
http://update.micros...ult.aspx?ln=eng

3. Install FireFox and then install the IE Tab extension >>
http://addons.mozill...efox/addon/1419

Then try the direct link from Firefox http://update.micros...ult.aspx?ln=eng
(IE Tab will automatically kick in and display the page using its own IE engine).

Thank you...I will try this as soon as I get home from work and let you know... However I did notice something a bit strange....
While at work on a secure server, I noticed the ads that run across the top of Windows Live Email, or other brower windows like Yahoo, are different that the ones that are running on my home computer...
the ads on my home computer are from a Drug Store (Canada??) advertizing Male Inhancement medication, with pretty explicite language,(something I wouldn't expect from advertizers). I am not getting these kinds of ads at work....
Could there be something to this????

Also, I noticed that you want me to install Firefox...Does this mean I should not use Internet Explorer anymore????

I notice the ads that run across the top of Windows Live Email

Can you uninstall Live mail totally and then re-install it from a fresh download. I have windows live mail and do not get ads. Don't forgot to back up your emails, address book and settings first.

We are using Firefox to ascertain where the problem lies. You can still use IE

step 1 - remove spybot - did and checked for update - went to webpage MSN.com

step 2 - Highjack this Part4Attached File  hijackthis4.txt   4.37KB   125 downloads
this is before I deleted the 4 listed

step 3 - Direct link - error "Resourse could not be found" http 404 error code

step 4 - install firefox and ie tab expentions - same error code 404
tried again and got "Bad Request" only.

So nothing here worked.. :)

do you have a clue as to how to uninstall windows live or at least to backup my over 275 contacts list. I can't afford to lose them all....

thanks again for trying

Are you using the desktop client or the web based ?

Windows Live Mail download Link

If the desktop client then go to file and select export

Then export to your desktop for convenience your accounts and messages
For contacts go to tools Contacts Export and then save again to your desktop

This is the view of my live mail top bar
