So the only time you get pop-ups are when opening or using Live Messenger?

I am really not seeing anything else malicious going on here. Several other experts have looked in here too and have not seen anything malicious.

Let's try resetting the hosts file. I have seen a couple of instances where this has helped.

Download HostsXpert v4.3 and unzip it to your computer, somewhere where you can find it.
  • Double click on HostsXpert.exe to launch the program.
  • Click on Restore MS Hosts File to restore your Hosts file to its default condition.
  • Click on Make ReadOnly to secure it against further infection.
  • Exit the program.
Visit the Website for more information.

See if this makes any difference in how it runs and let me know.

I really don't think this is malware related. More just an annoyance. Let's try something...

Run HijackThis.
Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on this:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Then close all windows except HijackThis and press Fix checked.

Reboot and see if this makes any difference. Post a new HijackThis log and let me know.

.. but it's still there

What is still there? The pop-ups? Or the HJT entry? Or both? Run HJT and post a new log please.

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
* Double click the drweb-cureit.exe file and click Start. This will start the express scan, let it run.
* This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
* Once the short scan has finished, select Complete Scan.
* Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
* Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
* When the scan has finished, in the menu, click file and choose save report list
* Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
* Close Dr.Web Cureit.
* Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
* After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.

Did you have DrWeb cure/move the files that were found?

We should uninstall combofix and remove SDFix. This will also clear out your restore points that may still be infected.

Delete the SDFix.exe file on the desktop and remove the folder.

C:\SDFix

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
  • Posted Image
The above procedure will:
  • Delete the following:
    • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • VundoFix backups, if present
    • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
    • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
  • Reset the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Reset System Restore.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Download CCleaner

CCleaner Setup and Usage

1. Before first use, check under Options, Advanced, and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours".
2. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
3. Then select the items you wish to clean up. (See Note 1 below)

In the Windows Tab:
Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer". If you prefer to keep your cookies, uncheck the Cookies entry. Deleting cookies will require re-entry of user names and passwords
on next visit to sites that require users log in.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
Clean all entries in the "System" section.
Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
Clean any others that you choose.
In the Applications Tab:
Clean all (optionally, except cookies) in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section. ==> Important: See Note 2 below before proceeding
Clean any others that you choose.
4. Then click the "Run Cleaner" button and it will scan and clean your system.
Click exit.

Reboot and let me know how it's running.

I think it did, cause I can't find it..

"* Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file." so I clicked 'Yes to all'

but I ran the CCleaner, and did the reboot, and the pop-up was still there, but today they are gone, let me see how it works the next 24 hours, then I'll give you an update;)
