Ive bought some software for my pc, iolo system mechanic pro which includes an antivirus and firewall

when I came to install it it said I need to remove my current antivirus software (AVG8) which I did

The system rebooted and when I tried to install again it said the same thing but Antivir PersonalEdition Premium

Ive never heard of this so I did a search and nothing was found

How the [bleep] do I sort this out?

PLEASE HELP THIS IS DOING MY HEAD IN!!!

Open regedit and search for nything to do with AVG and delete, then search the Windows folder for any traces of installer or MSI files, finish off with the Windows\system32 folder for any left over .dlls etc.

All that should clear the system of any queries regarding AVG.

I would like to add that I have had nothing but a good track record with AVG over a number of machines and several years, when I too installed System Mechanic, another good piece of software, I declined to install their anti virus, everything runs fine, no conflict.

Sorry got the wrong initials. I cannot think where the reference to it is being found by the installer then.

Does anyone else have any ideas as to why this is happening

A friend has siggested these sites:

http://www.pchell.co...llantivir.shtml

http://www.avira.com..._downloads.html

Is it worth doing this?

I don't know if this will work, but go into safe mode and try what was suggested. (what you are attempting to do)

This is the same link that was given in post 4.
Where does the file "SystemMechanicPro.exe" reside? You need to give us the exact path.
Do a search for the file and give us the path. At that point we can help you further.

Thats the problem, I have done a search and its nowhere to be found & what is really confusing me is the c:z link that I should copy and paste when you click start & then run

I did a *.exe search and found SysMech.exe
