Unable to fax from XP

I've used this software (Microsoft Fax) many times before. I've reinstalled drivers, checked modems and connections. All that is good. I can receive faxes but when I go through the steps of sending (cover letter, sender info, etc.) it just finishes with no record in outgoing box or sent faxes. Is there a remedy?
