We can do it from the regsistry as well.

Copy the part in bold below to notepad and save it as noactivedsktop.reg

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoActiveDesktop"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
"NoActiveDesktop"=dword:00000001

Doubleclick the file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Did that help?

If you choose a different background, does the same thing happen or do they cover the entire desktop?

And change your resolution under Settings to 800*600 and then change it back to the one you had.
Sometimes Windows needs a kick in the shins to wake up. :tazz:

Click Start > Run > copy&paste regedit /e c:\desktop.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop" > OK

This will create the file desktop.txt
Post the content of that file please.

Only the part in bold goes into the dialog box, correct?

If it gives you that error, do a Find Files for regedit

Let me know which files are found where.

Are you sure that is the correct link?

Never mind I downloaded the .bmp

You are supposed to search your filesystem not the registry for regedit.

And please just type the paths where you find a file of that name.
