Hello,
Just today I attempted to use my dvd/cd rom on my E-machine T5246. Absolutely nothing....looked at device manager and now I see an exclamation point regarding this device. When I click on it, it says it cannot start (code 10). I attempted to uninstall/reboot and it can not install device driver. I looked on internet regarding this and found that some have had problems regarding this with ITunes. I don't use ITunes so I deleted that as suggested with another website. Rebooted computer, same problem. Is there anyway someone might be able to help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Click the Start orb, then type regedit in the search box, and then click the regedit.exe link that appears at the top of the results. Registry Editor will open.

In the left pane, expand (click +) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SYSTEM, then CurrentControlSet, then Control, then Class, and click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

In the right pane, are UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters listed?

In the left pane, right click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and choose "Export". Name this file oldfilters and save it to your desktop.
Right click on UpperFilters and choose "Delete"...accept the change.

Close Registry Editor and reboot.

See if the drive is now shown in Computer and see if it works properly.

There isn't anything with Lower Filters, but will do what you say regarding Upper Filters.

Thanks

It works with one dvd+r but not with another....going to make sure something is on the one not showing anything...but so far so good.....

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!!!

BTW: Do you think it was the latest ITunes update that installed on this past Friday that might have caused this???

Yes.

The filter was the file GEARAspiWDM which is installed by iTunes.

You can delete "oldfilters" from the desktop.

Glad to help! :)

You should have no problems having removed iTunes. That was likely the last remnant.
