Hi Desumacchhi,

No worries, I had a hectic week as well.

How is your computer running?

Your Adobe Acrobat Reader is out of date. Older versions are vulnerable to attack.

Please go to the link below to update.

Hi Spysentinel,

The PC seems to be running much better, but I have only been using for a very short period of time (like 5 mins) since the clean up .... If you could leave this thread open i'd appreciate it, so I can properly see if all is fixed and then I'll post back here. I'm going away for a few days tomorrow, so I wont be able to properly test the PC until next week..... I hope thats ok with you.

BTW.... the Thuderbird infections appeared to be old infections that had been deleted already, I think Kaspersky was picking up an old footprint of the files. Once I compacted all the folders in Thunderbird, I re-ran Kaspersky and all came up clean.

Many thanks for your help on this

Regards
Desumacchi

Hi again Spysentinel,

I am back now from holidays and hopefully any other interruptions ready to try and kick this bug. unfortunately it still seems to be present. Often when I do a google search still I get redirected to totally unrelated sites (mainly random spam job sites)

What do I do next? elp ... pleeeease.

Cheers,
Desumacchi.

Hi Desumacchhi,

Yep, you are most certainly infected with Goored.

Please double-click GooredFix.exe on your Desktop to run it.
  • Select "2. Fix Goored" by typing 2 and pressing Enter.
  • Make sure all instances of Firefox are closed at this point.
  • Type y at the prompt and press Enter again.
  • A log will open, please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredLog.txt).
Note: If you receive a message saying that GooredFix needs your system to be restarted, please close all applications and reboot your system. Please also allow any registry changes that may be prompted by any of your security programs.

You're welcome. That should have taken care of Goored, are the redirects gone?

Also, please post a new RSIT (random's system information tool) Log

Hi Des,

You should still have RSIT saved on your desktop, if not:

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Hi Des, 2 logs only appear when you run RSIT for the first tome, after that you only get 1 log.

Do you still have ComboFix?

If so please run it and post the log, if you don't have it anymore let me know.

Hi Des,

No problem, here you go:

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
