My daughters laptop has a cracked screen. Connected it to a external monitor and it worked for a while. Lately when you start it, it will only operate in safe mode. When u try to start normally, it goes thru normal start up, then gets to a point where the monitor shuts down to be turned off. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How did the screen get cracked? If it was a hard impact, other pieces may have been damaged at the same time - but they took longer to fail.
I'd suggest a bootable hard drive diagnostic test of the hard drive first: http://usasma.vox.co...iagnostics.html

It was knocked off of her bed. This happened a couple of months ago. It worked when I first hooked up the monitor after it happened. I am at work, but when i get home tonight I will try the diagnostic test. Thanks!

IME most damage due to falls (after the screen) is from a damaged hard drive.
After that, I'd suspect either loose connections, or some damage to the motherboard (very expensive)
