I'll try that when I get home.

In the meantime, the problem has been the same from the very begining.

The subnet, gateway and DNS are blank. The ip address cannot be repaired or renewed. There seems to be a problem assigning an ip address.

Now it won't even accept the static ip address or any of the manual numbers I was entering.

Once we get the BSOD problem under control, I'll have a networking expert look at this.

Your BSOD problem appears to be resolved. Since I'm not good with networking problems, I'll ask someone else to step in here.

Hey jones082,

What type of network setup do you have? What's the make and model of your network card, router (if applicable) and modem?

Let's do a little info gathering first; you may have already done some of these steps -- please do them again.

Step 1 - Connectivity test:
  • Press Start
  • Select Run
  • Type cmd and press OK
  • In the new command prompt window, please type the following commands (*Note: each ping will take approximately 10 seconds to complete; wait for the command prompt to return before you type the next one. Also, the single '>' and double '>>' are intentional; please type the commands exactly as they appear):
    • ipconfig /all > C:\results.txt
    • route print >> C:\results.txt
    • ping 127.0.0.1 >> C:\results.txt
    • ping google.com >> C:\results.txt
    • ping 209.85.171.100 >> C:\results.txt
  • Once the above commands have completed, navigate to your C: drive and open the text file results.txt -- please copy/paste the contents of this file into your next response.
Step 2 - Restart your machine in Safe Mode with Networking:
Please restart the problematic machine in Safe Mode with Networking and then see if you can get an Internet connection; can you?
*Note: You will not be able to use a wireless connection while in Safe Mode; please ensure all tests are performed with a wired (Ethernet) connection.

Step 3 - Event Log/Viewer errors/warnings:
  • Click Start, select Run, type eventvwr and press OK
  • In the new window, look under the System log for any errors and/or warnings. If you find any, please post the relevant heading, along with the details inside by double clicking on the error/warning (denoted by a red 'x' or a yellow '!', respectively), and then copy/pasting the information from within.
*Note: You'll mainly be looking for DHCP and TCP/IP errors/warnings.
Finally, run the NETSH DIAG GUI utility and post any issues it detects.
  • Goto Start, Run, type: NETSH DIAG GUI - press 'OK'. A Command Prompt window will open temporarily; don't touch it, it will disappear in a moment.
  • A Microsoft Help and Support window will then open; select the option Scan your system.
  • Wait for the scan to finish and then scroll down to the heading Modems and Network Adapters. Look at Network Adapters (don't expand it yet). Beside your connection information, you should see a green PASSED; if you do not (if you see a red 'FAILED') then expand Network Adapters, scroll down the list until you see the heading with the 'FAILED', expand that option and copy and paste the results here. *NOTE: In the NETSH DIAG GUI, you should be looking for any red 'FAILED', however the key one is Network Adapters for you. If you see any other red FAILED, expand the component and copy the results.
Thanks,
- Dan

Thanks Dan, computer started crashing again, absolutely no internet connectivity. It will take me a little while to try your steps, but I'm not ready to give up. I'll post again when I'm able to.

Go into device manager, and expand video adapters. Tell me what is listed under there.
Can you do a memory test; click on Memtest Instructions in my sig, and follow the directions. Tell me the results.

This is a laptop or desktop?

There is no video adapter, under "display adapter" I have NVIDIA Geforce FX 5200. There is also a category for "sound, video, and game controllers" with a whole bunch of files under that- do you want me to list those?

This is a desktop.

Memtest is fine.

Yes... list them now.

Go here: http://www.nvidia.co...75.19_whql.html and download the driver.
Then when installing it make sure that you:
1. When downloading the driver don't use any download accelerators.
2. When installing the driver disable any real-time malware protection as this can interfere with the driver auto configuring itself.

Any more BSODs?
