Does it ask you to save the password and doesn't save it after choosing Save, or does it just not ask to save any passwords?

Open up Firefox. Go to Tools > Options. Click on the Security tab. Put a check mark next to Remember Passwords for Sites.

Okay, I've done that, but some of the 'buttons' I created to places I go a lot don't work and when I go to organize my bookmarks I have no way to change the 'link' (as it is blank).

If so, I'd backup all FF data with MozBackup: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/, and go for clean FF reinstall: http://kb.mozillazin...talling_Firefox

did the backup and the clean install and it still doesn't work right.

some of the sites I go to, my usernames and passwords are there and all I have to do is click on the "login" button.

other sites say "session expired"

other sites don't have my username and passwords in the boxes

would it help if I list some of the sites of each?

Now, wait a sec....
If:

my usernames and passwords are there

that means, you didn't perform CLEAN reinstall, as described in my link.
