A few months later after buying my HP Pavilion dv6000 series (dv6736nr) it started running slower. I can't say which programs made that becuase i have lots of them installed and some are pretty resource intensive. (Photoshop, Visual Studio 2005 and 2008, etc.)
Yestready i was checking the System Information window and noticed that Windows was using virtual memory but it also had free RAM available for use.

This is what System Information is displaying now.
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 2,00 GB
Total Physical Memory 1,87 GB
Available Physical Memory 924 MB
Total Virtual Memory 3,99 GB
Available Virtual Memory 2,77 GB
Page File Space 2,17 GB

3,99 GB - 2,77 GB = 1,22 GB virtual memory used.

Does this mean i have to add more RAM to make Windows Vista run smoother?

Thanks in advance.

No. 2GB of RAM is perfectly fine with Vista.
Using regular RAM, and virtual RAM at the same time is normal.

What is your hard drive size/free space?

Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.micro...s/bb963902.aspx
No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Go File>Export As, and save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
Attach the file to your next reply.

The hard drive size is 220 GB and right now it has 44,7 GB free.

I guess one of these days i will have to make use of HP recovery partition and get a fresh install of Vista because an AMD Turion 2.0 Ghz shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to load Vista. In my case it takes 3-4 minutes and my power plan is always High Performance.

Thanks.

I don't see too many startups there.
Did you scan lately for malwares?

Last week i did a scan with SpyBot 1.6.2 and SpySweeper. None of them detected anything nasty, just tracking cookies.
I bought this notebook a year and a half ago. I can't really say when startup began to get slower. I guess i managed to live with that.
I will begin a thread at the malware forum.

One last question.
My hard drive is splitted into two partitions. Partition D is called HP_RECOVERY and i cannot access it from Windows Explorer.
Do you know if this partition lets me do a fresh install of Vista?

Thanks.

Yes, but you have to backup your data first, because all will be lost.
