Hi guys,
I am soooo not computer smart but I was wondering if someone could help me figure out how on earth my name got involved in porn websites...?
Could it be due to a virus that I once had on my computer? Because its the only thing I could think of right now. Anyway, its so embarrassing seeing my name part of those websites every time I google it, especially being a religious person. Could someone tell me how or help remove my name.
Any help would be highly appreciable.

Godbless!
:)

Hi Mahshee83, and welcome to Geeks to Go.

The most common way this occurs is through web searching bots that collect personal information from people around the web and then append it to porn sites. The sites then hope that this will improve their search engine traffic. However it also could be a case of someone with the same name really being used on that site.

Officially trying to have the information removed from these porn sites can be difficult to impossible. If nothing else, you could email the search engines and the porn web sites to request that the information be removed, keeping a copy of all emails and replies. If it was more then just your name like an actual picture or something like that you could step it up a notch by contacting a lawyer and drafting up a Digital Millennium Copyright Act(DMCA) notice, but since its just your name that would almost be a waste of time and money.

I hope this help explain things for you.

What I want to know is why you Google your own name? I've never done it before... I'm gonna go try it now!

You would be surprised, lots of people do it all the time. We often get requests to edit or remove topics here because someone has searched their name, and it brings them back to the topic they needed help with.

let us know if you find anything good when you search your name.

Apparently I'm a doctor in the US, amongst others... :) And someone on Facebook stole my name!

If I search for my full name (including middle), I get nothing exactly on me. I'm anonymous. :)

Wow, I found a page where my aunt and uncle listed my Grandpas name which is the same as my dads, and mine. It was like the 4th hit down, but that makes sense. They are really really really really into tracing our family historygenes. They have traced our genes all the way back to before Fire was invented or something. :) Seriously though, I'll ask my aunt how far back. They work on it every single day for the last 30 years or so. Before computers making phone calls, writing letters, the whole nine yards.

I apparently live in Sydney, Australia. Octagonal, come visit! I found a couple of people on Facebook with my name, also.

I actually turn up quite a bit, because I run a fair number of races and the results get posted online.

Wow! This is scary... Googling my full Dutch name brought me to a geneology site where I lived from 1827 to 1902. At that time 'my' father's name was Cornelis... and that's what my father's name IS. Wish I didn't do this, he passed away last year.

Wow! I'm a:

minister
life coach
interior designer
artist
classical musician
author
advertising & marketing pro and
dietician/nutritionist

And that was in the first 10 hits... No wonder I'm so tired all the time. Had no idea I was living so many lives. I really need to pick something and stick with it, I'd say.
