I used to use AVG for number of years, until ver. 8.0 came out. Horrible...

So I'm starting the long test now... so far it's 0% done and already found 3 errors.
I will post an update when the test is completed (most likely when I wake up in the morning)... thanks

If it asks me if I want to repair bad sectors, should I say yes?

IMHO, once HD shows some issues, you better make sure your data is backed up regularly.

Is there a reliable way to really backup my entire computer? I've got all the important files backed up, but it would be nice to have a true backup so if my computer failed I could just move to a new HDD or even another machine without having to reinstall and configure everything...

Acronis True Image: http://www.acronis.com/ - not free, but the best
Free alternatives:
- Macrium Reflect: http://www.macrium.com/ReflectFree.asp (highly recommended)
- DriveImage XML: http://www.runtime.o...veimage-xml.htm
- SelfImage: http://www.excelcia....N...icle&sid=21
- Paragon Drive Backup: http://www.paragon-s...ome/db-express/

And what about the best HDD array? This is a home PC, but it's also my business... so would I basically use Acronis to create an image onto an external HD regularly, and perhaps have an extra one that I keep offsite in case of fire? Is there a certain type/quality of HD that is best for the backup image?
the scan is now up to 52%...

I really don't have any preferences (mostly after 6 weeks old Seagate gave up on meIs there a certain type/quality of HD that is best for the backup image?

"The drive is not responding to commands. Check cables and drive power connection."
Maybe I should try scanning again? Or is there something else to try? Or I need to abandon this HDD?

I'll try scanning again and if it fails again I'll probably start the process of moving to a new HDD...
so here's my new question...
what's the best way to seamlessly move to a new HDD? I'm pretty sure my PC case has one or more empty HDD slots. Should I get a new HDD and make an image of my current drive on it? also, my PC has an "HP Recovery disk" which I assume is a partition of this HDD. So would I first need to partition the new HDD to match the partitions of the current one, then create separate images for each partition? Or just one image? Or skip the recovery drive...
I'm thinking this drive must not be TOO bad yet, since I can still run Windows and run pretty much any program for awhile until it crashes...

Don't worry about it at all. I do what I do, because I like itbe sure to PM me your paypal address

As for new HD, most drives come with cloning software, which will allow you to replicate your old drive into a new one.
