I'm beginning to think the computer is beyond hope haha. You wouldn't happen to have a copy of Windows XP around would you?

There's most probably something wrong with the hardware, and it will be very difficult for us to pinpoint what that is. Now that the blue screens are more common though, it would be easier to take the computer to the Toshiba techs. Wasn't their problem not being able to reproduce the blue screens?

I'm so sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Please don't apologize :) I appreciate your time and trouble. It's funny, I did purchase an XP package for an older laptop and then decided to scrap that and bought this new laptop. I donated the old computer and the new XP OS to charity. My 30 days are up so I'll have to put out another $60.00. Maybe I'll send it to Toshiba instead of using these busy service places. Anyway. Thanks again.

I took out the battery and am running it on ac power without the battery in the unit. I was able to update the drivers. I decided not to update the BIOS yet. It's been working fine for at least a few hours. Of course, I haven't yet been on the internet and therefore have not updated Windows. I plan to leave it like this for awhile. Maybe that was at least one part of the problem.

That's good news. As I said earlier, tech support will usually use their own AC and will take the batteries out. Let me know how that goes :)

I'm baaaaaaack. Actually, I just wanted to tell you how it all turned out. I bought a new adapter and new battery - no luck there. I started to restore again to original out of box state and as luck would have it, I got a blue screen right during the restore process. I called Toshiba, they convinced me not to throw the laptop in the trash but to take it to another shop. I new that since they would have to restore it they would definitely see the blue screen for themselves. Long story short, they restored it and found that if they removed the extra memory that I had put in when I purchased it, the machine ran without any problems. I now have it back without the extra memory and it seems to be fine. The technician at the shop told me to use Kingston memory and not this memory that I purchased at Best Buy. He said for Toshiba laptops only use recommended memory. So - I plan to purchase additional memory from Kingston. Also, I recommend paying attention to the reviews for the shop. I took it originally to a shop that had 3 stars because it was the closest to my home. The second time, I took it to a 5 star place. They charged me less and it was not at all like a big commercial place. There were two technicians in a small suite in an office building. I hope this thread can help others in this situation. I love your site, but I sure hope I don't have to come back here anytime soon. I'll tell others how great this site is. :)

First a explanation of your error message.

0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
Requested data was not in memory. An invalid system memory address was referenced. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause this Stop message, as may other hardware problems (e.g., incorrect SCSI termination or a flawed PCI card).

Please start your own topic as you say this topic a year and a half old now.
Although your issue may seem similar there can be other factors that may need to be resolved.
By bumping on someone's topic it makes it confusing for the tech to understand who they are helping. This can in turn cause the wrong support to be given and can cause instability or worse to happen to your system.
Please post more information as to your exact issue in your topic. Include any error messages you get as well as your system specs. This will help us to assist you more efficiently.
Thank you for your cooperation.
