Hello there im running vista on a hp tower with 3 gb memory amd dual core processor etc. I am wondering if there is a true difference between upgrading the system with windows 7 or clean installing wondows 7 onto the system and which is better for overall performance

thanks any help would be appreciated

Upgrades are reported to take in excess of over an hour and they rarely work anyway.
Clean installation, I've just done in twenty minutes. Much better solution.

It really just boils down to preferences. It would be quicker to clean install the OS vs Upgrading yes. In either case you will want to backup all your data before upgrading/clean installing to prevent the loss of it. If you have a 2nd hd drop it all their then restore them after if you have any data loss.
