My Compaq Presario CQ71-235SA laptop keeps freezing. OS is Windows Vista Home Premium. This tends to be after a few minutes following Windows starting up. It will work for about 5 minutes and then it slows down to a complete stop, and all programs stop responding. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete does not bring up 'task manager' and the other options, it just has a black screen with an error message of:-
Heading: "logon process has failed to create the security options dialog"
Message: "failure - security options"
Seeing as I'm unable to shut down windows properly, I have to press and hold down the power button. When I then turn the laptop on again, it comes up with a 'Windows Error Recovery' message and asks whether I would like to open windows in 'safe mode' or to 'start windows normally'. Then sometimes it skips to a scan, which says: "Checking file system on C:" and also says that "one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency". Everytime my laptop has done this scan, it has passed it.
What is causing this and what should I do?
Thank you very much.
