I ran the Kaspersky scan 3 times...everytime it gets to 99% and gets stuck there..as soon as I click on anything the whole computer freezes up and I have to restart it manually.
After the first 2 times I deleted the file that it was stuck on to see if that was the problem (it was just a movie) but it did the same the the next time.

I just clicked on detected and theres a list of 14 active threats. I think they're the same ones that always show up...but its things like java, garmin (our gps), adobe, firefox and open office.
I can't figure out how to copy it to paste here though. If you need me to I can just type it out I guess.

Under the detected threats section there's a section called all detected malware and there's different subtopics..but under each one theres a list of files...some have a checkmark and it says deleted, and some have a little i and say detected. So is it not getting rid of the "detected" ones?? Is there any way I can take a screen shot or something to show you?

Hi caras

We could try AVP instead, it's like a stand-alone version of Kaspersky

Please click here to download AVP Tool by Kaspersky.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Reboot your computer into SafeMode.

You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.
Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter
    .

  • Double click the setup file to run it.
  • Click Next to continue.
  • It will by default install it to your desktop folder.Click Next.
  • Hit ok at the prompt for scanning in Safe Mode.
  • It will then open a box There will be a tab that says Automatic scan.
  • Under Automatic scan make sure these are checked.

  • System Memory
  • Startup Objects
  • Disk Boot Sectors.
  • My Computer.
  • Also any other drives (Removable that you may have)

After that click on Security level then choose Customize then click on the tab that says Heuristic Analyzer then choose Enable Deep rootkit search then choose ok.
Then choose OK again then you are back to the main screen.
  • Then click on Scan at the to right hand Corner.
  • It will automatically Neutralize any objects found.
  • If some objects are left un-neutralized then click the button that says Neutralize all
  • If it says it cannot be Neutralized then chooose The delete option when prompted.
  • After that is done click on the reports button at the bottom and save it to file name it Kas.
  • Save it somewhere convenient like your desktop and just post only the detected Virus\malware in the report it will be at the very top under Detected post those results in your next reply.

Note: This tool will self uninstall when you close it so please save the log before closing it.

We'll try it again later, after we've checked the disk out

did the scan, and nothing was detected

We'll try scanning the disk for problems

CHKDSK
Chkdsk is a Windows tool that checks disk volumes for problems and attempts to repair any that it finds
  • In the Command box type
    chkdsk C: /f /r
  • Then press the Enter key

    Notes:
  • Chkdsk requires exclusive access to a drive whilst it is running and may display a prompt asking if you want to check the disk the next time you restart your computer. If you get this Prompt, answer Y and then reboot your PC
  • Chkdsk can take a long time to run, please do not interupt it.

Let me know how you get on please

thanks!

I tried it and it says "Access denied as you do not have sufficiant privilages. You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode."

oh also, it's runnig it under my user account on the computer..should it be check the whole thing? I can try to do it under the administrator account, but then it will only check that one. Instead of c:\users\___ should it just run under c:\, or does it not matter?

Easiest way to get admin privileges in Vista Command box:

  • Open the Start Menu.
  • Click on All Programs (or Programs) and then Accessories.
  • Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

It'll scan the whole physical disk

I ran the scan..I checked it and it was still running, the next time I checked the computer it was at the screen where I pick which user to use the computer with. So if it had found any problems would it have stayed in the scanning screen?

I did that...I rebooted and it ran the whole scan..but at the end it just went to my screen to pick what user to log into on the computer. It didn't have any report or anything at the end

No, that's fine. I was just covering all bases.

How does the system seem? Any problems?
