I have a Dell XPS M1210 laptop and when I go on to Skype or any other chat site, I have computer volume that works fine, but my built in microphone doesn't seem to be working. It doesn't pick up any sound so I can not chat. I remember it used to work, but I haven't used it recently. Any ideas on how to fix this issue? Thank you.

I had the same problem with the microphone of my dell m1210 (vista sp2), after booting the computer everything works fine. When the computer went to "sleeping mode" the mic did not work again. I changed the setup of the microphone....

-control panel
-sound
-record
-microphone
-advanced
-untick "control by application"

....and now it works
