Lastnight, a program I have on my laptop - Paint Shop Pro X2 quit working. I went to restart my laptop and when it booted back up, it said something about an error and then ran some kind of update or fix in three parts.

When my computer finished booting, most of my programs will not work due to either wininet.dll missing or urlmon.dll missing. I cannot open any folders, any programs or Internet Explorer. However, I can open and use Firefox and the internet. I tried downloading a registry program or the missing dlls... but firefox will not download anything due to a "security settings policy". I have no idea what that security policy would be. I checked firefox's security preferences and everything looks good.

What could I possibly try to fix this? I am worried I have lost all of my files and pictures on my laptop and I would really like to avoid that.

I suggest you go to the Malware Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a OTListIt2 log in THAT forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a OTListIt2 log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

I have the same problem, I tried to follow the steps to scan/remove malware, etc. from the starting page. But after downloading the first file (TFC.exe) I was not able to execute it as the system would say it is not a valid win32 application...? HELP!
