Hello. I'm about to go crazy.

I have a Sony Vaio running windows Vista. Every few days my iTunes library goes and erases itself. All my music, videos, etc. are still there in the folder where I left it, but my playlists, settings, Genius and various other technical stuff associated with the music's use in iTunes is 100% erased and reset to default.

I've been dragging and dropping my library back into the thing and allowing the library to fill up again, but obviously I'm sick and tired of doing this every week or so.

I've tried making a new library folder in a different location, no dice.

Welcome to Geeks To Go!

Does it happen everytime you connect your iPod or other Apple device?

If yes, Sony have issued a fix for this specific problem, but it's only applicable to specific Vaio models. You need to go the country-specific Sony website that is appropriate for your location/region, select your specific model and see if the fix is included in the list of downloads.

The US Sony Support website for the Vaio is here:
http://esupport.sony...y...&NAVDISP=pc

And for the UK, here:
http://support.vaio....ex.aspx?l=en_GB

The links above are for the Sony Vaio laptop range. Sony also make Vaio desktop models so if yours is a desktop you may have to navigate around the website to find the relevant page - my apologies.

No, I connected to it once after the first time it happened. Actually haven't connected my iPod to the library since it happened the second time. I think i'm on the fourth or fifth time to be honest with you.

I looked through the updates for my model (VGN-NS240E) but I didn't find anything significant.
However, when I followed a few links to iTunes support (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451) I found instructions for finding and moving the .xml file.

I can't find this file anywhere.

Edit: after more digging i've found it... should I attempt to just follow the instructions there?

This is the Sony fix I referred to earlier, specifically for your model (Vaio VGN-NS240E)

http://esupport.sony...l...26&os_id=28

The page is on the US website, since that model was never officially shipped to the UK, or at least
it's not listed on the Sony UK support page.

I'll leave you to decide whether or not the fix is relevant to your problem, but it has to be worth a try if it's been released for your model.

I downloaded it, guess I didn't see it the first time. The library was still intact upon restart, so hopefully this fixes it.

I'll reply again if it disappears, but thanks for now :)

Yep, that didn't work. It's gone again.
