hi there. I've had my laptop for a year a now and all has been fine.

However around 2 weeks ago i sat down to do some work on Microsoft Word and since then every time i am typing something, and hit ctrl+s the screen freezes and does so for a couple of minutes. Now i'm assuming the CPU is trying to catch up but just today i had only Word open, no other program of any kind and the same result.

Any information regarding the cause of this problem would be very helpful.

Cheers! :)

Hi Hova and welcome to GTG :)

Try running Word in its Safe Mode, to do this...
Click Start
Click Run
In the run box, type winword /safe
Click OK

Does it still hang when saving a document in Safe Mode Word?

Nah, we should get it to run properly in its normal mode soon.
What version of Word are you using, e.g 2000, 2003, 2007 etc

Excellent, can you download Office Addin Manager from here

Unzip the contents, then Double click OfficeIns.exe
Click Edit > Select All
Click File > Save Selected Items and call it log.txt
Open up log.txt and copy and paste the contents in your next reply.

Well nothing seems to be wrong with those add-ins. The two that are listed for Word are standard ones.

You may need the Office disc for the following procedures, but not always, it will prompt you for the disc if it is needed...

Try repairing Word by doing the following:
Open Microsoft Word
Click Help
Click Detect and Repair
Make sure the top box out of the two is ticked and click Start
This will repair any Office components that are missing or damaged
After it has completed re-open Word and see if it is still freezing

If that didn't work...

Click Start
Click Run (or just press Windows Key + R)
In the run dialogue box type winword /r
This will re-register Word's registry entries
After it has finished, open Word and see if it has solved the problem

If you are still having no joy, go back in the Detect and Repair option and tick both boxes this time and then click Start to repair Office.

Let me know how you get on :)
