I have set-up and have tried Linux Mint8 and like it. My problem is that there are some unique windows programs that I use and need for my church and for a charity for which I am treasurer. How can/do I install these programs? I have downloaded the mint8 PDF instructions but cannot find the answer there.

Some programs work under "wine", others do not. You can also use VirtualBox to have a virtual Windoze machine, which would allow you to run just about anything.

Hello Rick1931! Good to see Mint8 is working for you.

What are those Windows applications you speak of?

Crossover Linux should run the Windows apps listed here:

Wine is free to download and use, but it can take a bit of work.

Donariusappears to run on Linux using WINE.

Simply Accounting doesn't appear to have been tested under WINE since version 2008 and that didn't work. The recent updates to WINE may make it work but I wouldn't count on it. That leaves only a virtual machine running Windows.

You could take a look at GnuCash and see if that will fill the bill. It should be in the Linux Mint repositories.
