Windows Media Player etc. won't open

Hello,
I don't recall what the error was but my computer was asking me to run a CHK DSK which I scheduled to perform when I turned my computer back on and it did (took like 2hrs or more). Don't know if that was associated but Windows Media Player now will not open at all, videos on Youtube will not play and Facebook will not load -- these are problems I noticed thus far. Any idea what is wrong/advice PLEASE!!!!!
