Have you been to Windows Updates again and again until it is all finished (assuming you can keep running long enough)?

Yes...I did that yesterday.

Try oping your Action Center and check for problems, also when you say do more than one thing what are you doing , like surfing the Internet and say trying to open the Control Panel. Check the Task Manager and see if any thing in running that shouldn't be running, or high CPU usage. Check and run or generate a system health report and run your system resource monitor and look for issues there, are you running any kind of firewall or anti-virus that might be causing your issues. When the work being done circle is going is the system stalled or frozen up. What can you do with system and not have any problem anything?

no problems in action center. yes, that would be an example of doing more than one thing but like i stated it's sporadic. my pc could be running fine for 20 minutes before it starts lagging. For instance it just lagged for about 30 seconds going from page 1 to 2 of this thread with nothing else open on my PC, although it's not just the internet that causes the lag time. CPU usage is below 10%, only virus protection i run is avast which was recommended by someone here. system gets stalled not frozen, it eventually will respond and click through all the clicks it missed while it was stalled...there' nothing i can do to not have problems and i've tried everything (i think) i'm thinking it has to be hardware, but all the tests checked out. it's very frustrating, but i have a laptop that i use so avoid using this one. although, it's a pretty expensive paper weight to not be used....

Still experiencing issues. Some other info...this PC originally came with Windows XP. When I installed Windows 7, it found most of the drivers and I didn't need to install anything. Should I look for Windows 7 specific drivers even though my device manager seems to be happy?

What programs do you have running in the background, Check startup memu programs and see if you have a lot of software that start when PC boots and also check ram usage, another gig of ram might help if ram usage is part of the problem, sounds like there is something running in the background using up resources. Try turning of the AVast AV and see if there is a difference in lagg time. Run disc cleanup. Might be a bad install did you say what version of 7 your running and system specs
