Hello! I am not horribly tech-savvy so please pardon my misuse of terminology and other newb mistakes!

Two days ago, I noticed my search engines started redirecting to other pages in Firefox. Then a fake antivirus warning kept popping up. I didn't download the suggested application and after looking around I realized it was probably the "Your Protection" virus (http://www.removevir...-protection-718). While running Spyware Doctor with Antivirus, it would the trojans (8-11 infections or so) but continually freeze up as the fake antivirus kept interrupting and then downloading porn links onto the desktop.

It seemed like it would clean a few of the virus but if I opened a web browser they'd come back. I finally went through a whole scan with Spyware Doctor and cleaned the trojans.

Now, whenever I try to open an exe file, it says Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

I appreciate any help!

See if unhookexec.inf helps:

http://www.symantec....-050614-0532-99

If so then
Do as much of

http://www.geekstogo...uide-t2852.html

as you can. If a step won't work, skip to the next one. Copy and paste your gmer, mbam, otl, & extras logs into a reply. Do not attach them.

If you lose internet access after running MBAM or if you are not able to get to the downloads:

In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings, then uncheck all boxes and OK. Close IE and restart IE.

In FireFox, Tools, Options, Advanced, Settings, check No Proxy then OK. Close Firefox and restart Firefox.

In Chrome, Wrench, Options, Under the Hood, Change Proxy Settings, uncheck all boxes, OK.

Hi RKinner,

Thanks for the info.

Since I can't access any .exe files I transferred it over to the desktop. However, when I right click unhookexec.inf I don't see "Install." "Open" is an option, but when I open it I see a notepad file. Does this mean it has been installed?

Also how do I access my gmer, mbam, otl, & extras logs?

Thank you. I really appreciate your help!
