cannot connect to the internet

I have lost my internet connection. When I go into control panel and try to reinstall my dial up connection the dialogue box for dial up connection is greyed out.
I contacted my ISP provider and they have told me it is a problem within the registry.
Can anyone help or has anyone had a similar problem?

Are you on-dial-up on broadband? Who's your provider?
