Need help getting rid of viruses

Hi i would really like some help. I have norton antivirus and this morning it gave me a message that my computer was at risk because it the virus protection has been turned off. So, I tried tuning it back on but it won't give me the option to do so or even do a system scan. I viewed the scan history and it's been completely erased to I don't even know what virus is causing it. If there's anyone who can help I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
