DSL router

can all routers work for DSL internet or are there only certain ones that work for DSL. I am getting someone a router for xmas and they have dsl internet through direct tv and im not sure if a router will work for dsl or if it does, if i need to look for a certain type or router or not.

unless they're wanting to replace their DSL modem with a modem/router combo unit (and assuming their ISP allows for such a thing) then no, any router will work. they'll need to consult their DSL provider's support page to get instructions on how to connect a router to the modem (most DSL connections require modification to the modem settings for the router to function properly)
