Windows Vista loads but unable to open anything

I am running Windows Vista on my laptop. When I turn the computer on, Vista loads but will not allow me to open anything. I can't run a virus scan because i can't open the program nor can I open internet explorer to try and run an online scan. Please Help!!!

I am having a similar problem.I can boot in safe mode with networking and get online and can open most programs and run scans.

Haven't found anything yet.As soon as I .get time I am going to post my problems and post an OTL scan.

When I boot in normal mode it shows I'm not connected to a network but I'm connected in safe mode.
