Please run the memtest program to check the memory.
Did you replace the hd or are we still dealing with the original hd?
Are you able to get into windows now?
Do you have a OS installation disk or just a recovery disk for the laptop?

Hi.

First MEMTEST reported no errors. 2nd test is still running - no errors so far - will let it run all night (another 7 hours)and advise if there are any errors.

I have not replaced the HDD.

Still able to start start windows perhaps 80% of the time. A few hours ago had a second "windows failed to start - will try to repair problem". The 1st was a week or so ago. Also have had a few more full screen BS's and new ones that are just a half inch band across the bottom of screen.

No OS disc - only Recovery discs.

Hi rshaffer61,

Have run chkdsk and have no report other than there were no bad records processed, no EA records processed, 60 reparse records processed, 0 index files processed, all security descriptions and data files processed and USN bytes processed and verification complete, all file data verification complete, and all free space verification complete.

Have only booted a couple of times since chkdsk and observed no problems.

Will report any problems if they occur.

Are there any other tests recommended at this time?

That is good to hear and we may have corrected the issue. The reparse correction may have been the key to all this. Please let me know how it works and I will continue to monitor this topic for your results.
