MOUSE FREEZES AND THEN BLACK SCREEN

this has been happening for a while now, and ive not got a clue what is, All that happens is one minute working fine and the next the mouse freezes the screen either goes Black or sometimes its goes white fussy so to speak the only thing to get it back on is by switching the power button off to turn the laptop off, Ive reformatted it and it was fine for a week and its started again

is it the graphics? the processer or something else ?

would be really greatful for you help before its beyong help it used to run on vista changing to windows 7 wouldnt of coursed this would it ? oh one more thing i only use a dongle so it only has the mains and the dongle pluged into it
