I don't know.
I think they were from the time that my drivers were conflicting.
I was following instructions from a helper in a forum and I remember inserting my Windows Disk.
It did not help.
That problem was solved by installing an earlier driver.

Hi,

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow

Make sure to include the space between the first "c" and the "/".

This will run the System File checker and it will scan for corrupt or missing files. It may prompt you to insert the CD if it needs to obtain files.

Please post back when it has finished letting me know what it has reported.

I ran Puran and Check disk. It took almost seven hours to complete and did not find anything.

Computer still took almost five minutes to boot.

Our next best option now is to do a repair install as described here. It will replace all the missing files as well as cure some dodgy entries in the system.

Don't worry system repair won't delete your data, installed programs, personal information, or settings. It just repairs the operating system!
Please, have your Windows XP CD-KEY ready.

• Boot from your Windows XP CD. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer.
• When the "Press any key to boot from CD" message appears on the screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.
• A blue screen will appear and begin loading Windows XP Setup from the CD.
• When completed loading files, you will be presented with the following "Windows Setup" screen, and your first option. Select "To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER". DO NOT select Recovery Console.

• When presented with the screen below. press the F8 key to continue.

• Next, Windows Setup will find existing Windows XP installations. You will be asked to repair an existing XP installation, or install a fresh copy of Windows XP.
• Press the R key.

• Windows XP will appear to be installing itself for the first time, but it will retain all of your data and settings.
• Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to reinstall Windows XP. After you repair Windows XP, you may have to reactivate your copy of Windows XP.
• Run another OTL Scan and post the logs on your next reply

This is how I got all those multiple Windows installations! I remember last time I tried to do this, no matter what I did I could not get the repair, it just kept installing a new Windows. I am going to take some time to read up about this and understand what might have happened. Unless you know?

Some OEM disk dont have repair function option available when you insert the disc. This maybe the case, see if you can borrow another Windows XP installation disc to use instead of the one you're using. If there is no other available installation CD handy do not continue and we will think of something else.

I found the Application and Support Disc in my drawer that offered:
1-Recovery of Start up files
2-Recovery of System and driver files
3-restore to factory settings

I ran #1, no help
I tried to run #2, but it got an error and froze
I don't want to wipe out my drive, so I will not try 3.

Download aswMBR.exe ( 511KB ) to your desktop.

Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it


Click the "Scan" button to start scan



On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply
