I am posting this off my laptop. Windows XP, can't get onto internet pages or most programs without multiple messages popping up. My firewall is somehow off. Windows Security Center pops up if it does boot, then XP Anti-Spyware 2011 Unregistered version starts scanning my computer and asking me to register/pay for if I hit the Stop Button.When I click on my internet browser the message from XP ANTI SPYWARE comes up saying firefox is infected with TROJAN BNK.WIN32.KEYLOGGER.GEN If I click No, continue unprotected, it still won't let me access any programs of any other websites. If I hit continue surfing without any security measures it still doesn't get off that webpage.
I clicked the OTL.exe icon that I had previously installed on my computer, as well as the Malware Anti Malware program from this site,
but neither will do anything!!!
PLEASE HELP, I have no money and a household of two children in college!

Hi lets see if we can resolve this - first can you copy this small to programme to the infected system desktop

Download RogueKiller to your desktop

• Quit all running programs
• For Vista/Seven, right click -> run as administrator, for XP simply run RogueKiller.exe
• When prompted, type 2 and validate
• The RKreport.txt shall be generated next to the executable.
• If the program is blocked, do not hesitate to try several times. If it really does not work (it could happen), rename it to winlogon.exe

Please post the contents of the RKreport.txt in your next Reply.

Then run OTL

• Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
• Select All Users
• Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

I'm sorry, I'm confused a bit! I can't access internet webpages on the desktop PC it won't let me get past the messages. I'm on the post on my laptop. Don't know how to get to the link to download the Rogue on the PC. Thank you for the fast reply!

Do you have a USB drive/stick to download the programme to and then copy to the desktop ?

Also have you tried safe mode with networking ?

Reboot the computer and continually press the F8 key
That should bring you the safe mode menu
Select safe mode with networking and see if that enables you to download it

I tried the safe mode with networking, unfortunately it still is not allowing me onto webpages. I can copy programs onto CD's using my laptop, but I don't have a USB anymore. However, I can go to the store and get one really quick if that is the only way! Thanks

No you could burn to a cd just as easilly and run Roguekiller from there - but name it to winlogon before you burn it

OK no sooner said than done

Download Avast from this direct link to your desktop

Run the setup programme, on completion it will ask for a quick scan allow this. If it finds anything put it in the virus chest (I do not think it will)

It may ask for a reboot..

Once rebooted double click the orange blob in your system tray

Go to the maintenance tab and select register

This will bring up a box again click the free registration button

Fill in the short form and you are done..

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL

• Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
  
  

  :Commands
  [resethosts]
  [purity]
  [emptytemp]
  [EMPTYFLASH]
  [CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS]
  [Reboot]

• Then click the Run Fix button at the top
• Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that

• Click Start.
• Open My Computer.
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
• Select the View Tab.
• Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
• Click Yes to confirm.
• Click OK.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application.

Upgrading Java:

• Go to this site and click Do I have Java
• It will check your current version and then offer to update to the latest version

SPRING CLEAN

Download and run Puran Disc Defragmenter
For the first run I would recommend a boot defrag and disk check




Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Malwarebytes. Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
