Hi Geeks :)

Firstly thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and fingers crossed resolve my issues.

My stepdaughter's laptop was running really slowly and freezing up, all the usual problems. I tried to carry out updates but when I tried to get to the windows site it would redirect me to other websites. I ran antivirus which picked up nothing. I then carried out a scan which said that the computer was infected with all kinds of stuff, one of them being alureon. I have gone through the process in the malware removal guide ( erunt/otm/gooredfix/tdsskiller but still cant get the updates. The message is: [Error number: 0x80070424]

Please can anyone help as I'm not sure what to do now.

Her laptop I believe is running XP Service Pack 3 but am unsure of last update. It will not allow me to turn on automatic updates.

Right... well since I wrote this I have been ferreting away trying to get to the bottom of this problem and have finally managed to get the updates to work but the pc is still really slow and in light of the trojan and other worms found earlier I would still like some help please as I'm not convinced that the problem is gone.

Thanks in anticipation.
