Hello I need help on getting rid of the DrWatson Postmortem Debugger. Everytime I touch my control panel, my computer, my recycle bin, or things on my desktop my computer just ignores my request after loading. All I can basically do is go to the internet. I have just installed Norton Antivirus 2005, before I installed it the computer had the DrWatson Postmortem Debugger trojan. But, I could do most activities on the computer. The difference after installing Norton Antivirus, and Lavasoft Ad-Aware is that I can't touch my control panel,my computer, my recycle bin, and stuff on my desktop. Here is my Hijack THis info. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Hello and welcome to Geeks To Go.

I am UKBiker and will be helping you with this log.

Lets start out with some general scans and see if we cant clean things up a little.

+++++ Step 1 +++++

Please download Ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install Ewido security suite
  • Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
+++++ Step 2 +++++

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

+++++ Step 3 +++++

After that, I will need to see two different logs from HiJackThis. The first is the normal log like you posted here. To get the other one, follow these directions.

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Post back with those logs and we can continue from there.

If you have recieved help elsewhere or no longer need our assistance, please let us know.

Hi There Andydude00

Thanks for your reply. Ok, first thing is dont worry too much about posting the bitdefender scan at the moment, but keep hold of it, I may want to have a look at it later, 43kb? ;)
This is going to be a bit of a pig to clear, but dont worry, we will gwt rid of it, but I need to do a bit of research before i post my next fix to you, but i will post as soon as i can :tazz:

One question, did you try and run the kaspersky on line scan? let me know in your next post please,
Also, and this is Important: You must not run HJT from a temp or zipped folder as you are currently doing.So, please Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Unzip HijackThis into this folder. Please delete the old copy (including the zip copy) so it can't be used.

Hi UKBIKER, thanks a lot for helping me out. I tried to run all of the scans, and only bitdefender (trial not the online version) worked on my computer. When I tried the others, they didn't work. Kapersky's says it needs Windows Explorer which I don't have on my computer. Should I install windows explorer? Also Housecall didn't work because I couldn't locate my netscape plugin files. The bitdefender file is huge not 43kb, but 43774kb. I wonder why its so huge. My computer even had a hard time opening it. I will do what you said with Hijack this. Should I post a new Hijackthis file on here? THANKS ALOT FOR COMING TO MY AID.

Hi there andydude00

are you sure you dont have Windows Explorer? its a part of XP straight out of the box! You can find it like this-

Go: start>programmes>accessories>Windows Explorer

With regard to the HJT log, Yes, Please post a new log here when you have got it installed correctly.

Hi There Andydude00,

If you have got HJT installed in its own folder now, please post me a new log here. Did you manage to get Windows explorer to open yet?
