It is supposed to ignore AVG after the last update. Don't know why it sees it anyway. Do a search of your system and delete any AVG folders.
Download and run the AVG removal tool.
http://download.avg....6_2011_1322.exe
Click Start, Run and type CMD then hit OK
Type this command and press Enter:
net stop winmgmt
Using Windows Explorer, rename the folder C:\Windows\System32\Wbem\Repository to C:\Windows\System32\Wbem\OldRepository
Switch to Command Prompt window, and type the following and press ENTER after each line:
net start winmgmt
EXIT
Now try it.
Then if it still won't run, uninstall Combofix:
To uninstall combofix, copy the next line:
"%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix.exe" /Uninstall
Shutdown or pause your anti-virus.
Start, Run, cmd, OK then right click, Paste, then hit Enter.
Download it again from
http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
and right click on it and rename it to george.exe
See if george will accept the CFScript.

Not good. It's having trouble reading the MBR on the hard drive. Is this a Dell?

Go to http://www.goodells....store/fixes.htm and download the dsrfix utility. Save it and run it. What does it say?
Have to admit this is not looking good. Can you use your other PC to burn a CD?

Try going into the Setup (note the part number on the drive and tell me) and tell it you have no hard drive. Save and reboot. Then go back into Setup and tell it to detect the hard drive. Save and reboot. Sometimes with Dells that will make it work.
I don't know that the Dell can boot from a memory stick. Not all older models can. You could try it and see.

http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ Get His boot disk and unzip it.
create the bootable usb and see.

More modern drive than I thought you would have so it may be able to boot from a USB. What is the model number of the laptop.
Western Digital drive:
You need to get someone to download and burn this for you:
Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for DOS (CD)
http://support.wdc.c...&sid=30&lang=en
The Diag504fCD.iso is the one you need. If they need a burner program for the iso then try:
http://www.freeisoburner.com/
Once you get it to boot (and it finds its own license file - if you have problems let me know) choose the extended test and let it run as long as it takes.
